Soccer: Oliveira wants Japan job
SAITAMA (Kyodo) -- Kashima Antlers manager Oswaldo Oliveira would be more than willing to coach the Japan national team if asked, the Brazilian said Saturday night.
"If you ask me, am I prepared? Yes," said Oliveira, who has led Antlers to an unprecedented three straight J-League titles in his three years in Japan.
"I know soccer in Japan very well. If I want it? Yes -- if they invite me. Of course I will accept."
"I love Japan. I love to stay here. I want to stay here, and I would love to have the national team. I don't run, I don't escape for the answer. But I cannot judge; this is not my responsibility."
Oliveira, who has received acclaim around the industry for his achievements at Kashima, was given the recent backing of Japan defender Marcus Tulio Tanaka and Cerezo Osaka coach Levir Culpi to succeed Takeshi Okada.
Oliveira has been offered to coach Brazil twice in the past in 2000 and 2003, he said.
Japan Football Association technical director Hiromi Hara has been conducting his search for a new manager overseas, but as of Saturday, no deal with any of the three candidates had been struck.
Hara, the acting coach for Japan's upcoming two games against Paraguay and Guatemala, would only say he had made "progress" and that he was "definitely close to reaching an agreement."
The JFA has said it will break off negotiations with the unnamed candidates sooner rather than later, and if it does, Hara could start looking inside Japanese shores.
Oliveira, alongside Nagoya Grampus' Dragan Stojkovic and Gamba Osaka's Akira Nishino, has been frequently mentioned as one of the most qualified to coach Japan in the J-League.
Oliveira said he has not spoken with Kashima officials about the Japan job, but added that a clause in his contract allows him to leave if and when an offer is tendered.
"Kashima people, they are reserved," the former Corinthians boss said. "They never talk to me about the national team. They don't want me to leave."
"But I'm always prepared to leave; in my contract, I have this very well explained. Any national team."
Oliveira also said that as a native of Brazil, he could offer Japan pluses that non-Brazilian managers could not at the next World Cup in 2014.
"I know everything about soccer in my country," he said. "I know where they are going to play, and I will feel at home. I think this is a strong point, not only me but any Brazilian coach should have in any national team in this circumstance."

現時点に於いて、日本代表の監督に最も相応しい人物を挙げろと問われれば、オリヴェイラ監督であると言う以外に答えは無かろう。
しかしながら、史上初の四連覇が掛かり、二度目の三冠を狙う我等の指揮官を失うことは、非常に痛手である。
我等としては、そうならぬ事を望むしか無い。
